The Vintners
They found the perfect vineyard on a rolling hillside and sank their savings into the dream of raising
grapes and producing award-winning wines. Even though their climate, with its foggy, cool summers,
mild winters and infrequent frosts, is ideal, they still have to make the daily weather-based decisions
that determine the success—or failure—of their crop. They needed real-time data from their own
vineyard’s micro-climate, which happens to be miles from their office; miles from anything in fact! They
chose a Vantage Pro2 Plus system and installed new Vantage Connect to bring that remote station’s
data right into their office via a cellular connection. They use WeatherLink software to log and store
data to use in future growing seasons. They added a Wireless Leaf & Soil Moisture Temperature Station
to aid in irrigation decisions and the Integrated Pest Management Module for Grapes to manage pests
before damage occurs. They dream of expanding their vineyard and adding weather stations in remote
fields. They need the durability, accuracy, and update speed of Davis stations; and the flexibility to
grow and add on to their system offered by the Vantage Pro2.

The Wind Researcher
She’s a researcher overseeing graduate students who are studying wind energy. Her team needed wind
data from several sites to see how wind moves through the campus. She started with the Vantage Pro2
on the roof of the biology building, and then added two Vantage Vue integrated sensor suites about
800 feet apart, along with a long-range repeater. Her colleagues were interested in not only the wind
data, but the temperature and humidity data as well. When her team decided three anemometers
were not quite enough, they asked for more. But with three different
consoles reporting the data, it was already a time-consuming
process to compile the data into one useful database. Enter
our new Envoy8X, which allowed her to install five more
Davis anemometers with Anemometer/Sensor Transmitter
Kits. Using long-range repeaters, all eight stations are
logged by one Envoy8X. One database with data from all
the anemometers plus the additional sensor data from the
three integrated sensor suites is just what her team needed.
